excerpt:

She stopped where the lane ended at the edge of a cliff. Far below her, the purple-blue waves of Lake Erie rolled to shore. Above them spread a band of ruddy gold. Streaks of rose, then amber, then yellow slashed through the layers of pale blue sky, but she didn't take time to admire them. She checked the settings on her camcorder. It was ready.
Catherine Jane (Cassie) Denning has it all: a mother who is a Doctor; a father who works at home; an older brother; a younger sister; a best friend who is East Indian; a pair of boys who like her; an approaching sixteenth birthday; a house on the shores of Lake Erie; and the ghost of a 16-year-old girl trying to take over her life. The liner notes state that it took Gisela Tobien Sherman over ten years to write this novel, and, if you like teenaged, Canadian Gothic novels, the wait may have been worth it. Despite some minor quibbles, Sherman's novel is a riveting, exciting, well-written piece of work. It is particularly interesting to see an author's development within one novel rather than through a series of novels. Nevertheless, I would have recommended that either Sherman or the editors should have spent another month editing the first chapter which read more like Bulwer-Lytton rather than Sherman. Fortunately for readers, the rest of the book was better written.

Recommended.
