image Cindy Szerkeres has written a very appealing twist on The House that Jack Built. An adorable jack rabbit constructs a snow mouse and clothes it with "his hat, all ragged and worn, along with his scarf, all tattered and torn." Mama Rabbit chides her son and makes Jack put his old winter headgear back on but finishes his new scarf and toque overnight as Jack sleeps peacefully under a handmade quilt. The snowmouse is then wrapped up snugly in Jack's friendly old clothes, and Jack adds snowbabies to keep him company.

Szerkeres' delightful illustrations are sure to engage young children, and the poem will teach children rhyming techniques, patterning, and adaptation.

Highly recommended.
