Each of these 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 inch accordion-format board books is organized around a theme. Baby Animals uses simple cartoon-like colour illustrations to show eight adult animals and one or more of their offspring on the panels found on one side of the "book". Flipping it over reveals a dachshund suckling her pups. Somewhat oddly, the dog also has a bunch of baby chicks perched on her back. The animals include a mixture of the familiar, such as ducks, horses, and chickens plus the more exotic, like kangaroos, seals, monkeys and hedgehogs.
Zoom Zoom, which also is illustrated in a cartoon fashion, focuses on means of motorized transportation and utilizes a bus, police car, fire truck, ambulance, truck, plane, helicopter, and boat on the eight panels on one side, and a train spread over six panels on the flip side. Animals are shown to be the vehicles' operators or passengers. Only the fire truck, actually a ladder truck, may not be immediately recognizable by toddlers.
The perfect size to be tucked into pockets or diaper bags for those away-from-home times when some visual stimulation may be called for, this pair of books, unfolded, would also make good room decorations.
