excerpt:

I love you more than riding my bike on a cosy night beneath the moon.
I love you more than a hot bubble bath on a cold winter’s day.
I love you more than the wistful sound of a choir singing a sad song.

Love You More Than Anything is a compilation of heartfelt examples of how “I love you more than….” Each page exhibits a new comparison of how much one can love another. Though there is little text in this book, the illustrations make up for the lack of plot by telling a new story with each picture. Groenendyk’s use of permanent black marker outlines coloured with warm tones of acrylic paint is very detailed and effective in extending each comparison. Each painting features different people from various backgrounds, beliefs, cultures, and races.

I commend Groenendyk who wrote and illustrated this book for her thoughtfulness and inclusiveness of how everyone loves someone more than something. The realistic relationships reflect today’s society of interracial, intercultural, and same-sex couples. I recommend Love You More Than Anything for a heartwarming read between loved ones as it reminds us how special moments are created with those we love.

Recommended.
