Coming across a pavilion in a park, a curious moose wonders what the purpose of a roof is and accepts the help of his forest friends, Bear, Beaver, and Squirrel, in creating one for himself. The shelter is made of branches, leaves, turf and flowers, awkwardly weighed down with rocks.
He learns he cannot do any of the things he truly loves to do with a roof perched atop his antlers. With one gust of wind, he finds relief from the discomforts he had been experiencing. He revels in a rainstorm that massages his tired muscles and lulls him into a comfortable sleep. He remembers who he truly is and what he needs to be happy and well-rested. These needs did not include a roof for shelter, as he announces, "The sky over my head is roof enough for me!" Accompanied by beautiful images, this Canadian book reminds our smallest readers about the importance of being oneself, knowing what we need, and following our own path. Moose's Roof is an excellent choice for a rich read-aloud and discussions in the classroom about shelter, animals or about being a friend. Highly Recommended. Moose quickly realizes that carrying around a shelter on his antlers is not ideal for him or the enjoyment of his daily life activities. He becomes cranky, with the buzzing of the bees during the day and tired by the nightly visit of an owl.
