excerpt:

Hold me close and read to me. Cuddled warm and tight. Your voice is like a lullaby that soothes me day and night.

I am listening

This board book contains photographs of seven children (and their parents) enjoying books. The colour photographs show children progressing in age from newborn to toddler while the text instructs parents on how to read to their child, reminding them their child is listening, seeing, reaching, pointing and eventually reaching to choose from their own library of books.

The photographs are informative; they show how lift-the-flap board books can be used for games of peek-a-boo and how parents can hold books and babies at the same time. There is no mention about how it's natural and important for children to hear their favourite stories over and over, but chewing on them is described as usual behaviour because that is how babies learn about their environment. Because the photos in the book are culturally diverse, a large number of children will see themselves in the story.

Librarians and authors will be pleased to know that the board books shown on every page are real books that can be purchased or borrowed.

Highly Recommended.
