excerpt:

Often called Hollywood’s “It Girl”, Emma Stone is an incredibly successful and talented actor. From her early start in teen comedies such as Superbad to dramatic roles in The Help and Birdman, Emma’s acting ability covers an impressive range . In just a few short years, she has captured blockbuster roles and worked with such iconic directors and producers as Woody Allen and Judd Apatow.

This 32 page nonfiction book about the famous American actress Emma Stone is part of the “Superstars!” series. Against colourful backgrounds of paint splashes and filmstrip clipart, the author talks about Emma’s childhood and family before delving into her early roles. The chapter entitled “Bigger and Better” talks about her popularity at the box office and award shows and her roles in The Amazing Spider-Man, The Help and Birdman. There is only a small paragraph about her love life, but there are three pages devoted to her charity work. The book includes information about her time on stage and television and her roles for 2015. Direct quotes, labelled photographs, and sidebars of facts contain more information about the actress. Some of the words in the glossary may be unnecessary for the age group this book will likely attract (range, anxiety, vocal chords), but I think this book would do well in a school or public library, especially if displayed with her movies or with other books in the series.

Recommended.
