As the above excerpt indicates, Brady loved hockey. In fact, he loved hockey so much that his parents had to repeat his given name at least twice in order to get his attention. In Brady Brady Superstar Hockey Collection, Scholastic has brought together five Brady Brady books that were originally published between 2002 and 2007. The plot lines of the books in this collection reinforce the values of friendship, fair play and team play and deal with matters that would be of concern to the intended young audience.

      As all of the books in this collection were previously positively reviewed in CM, I will limit my comments largely to the book’s physical aspects. As the Brady Brady books were originally published in a paperback format, this hardcover collection means that the book should enjoy a larger shelf life. The book’s larger format, in terms of the pages’ height and width, makes Chuck Temple’s illustrations much more visible should the book be used with a read-to audience of several children. Additionally, the $14.99 price is less than half of what the books would have cost had they been individually purchased as paperbacks.

      Brady Brady Superstar Hockey Collection would be an excellent home purchase, and it certainly belongs in school and public libraries.
