excerpt:
Malcolm was excited to build great big sandcastles all day long outside in his sandbox, but Mother Nature had a different plan. The sunny day quickly turned into an unexpected rainstorm. At first, Malcolm was upset, sulking, yelling, and scowling, but it didn’t take long for Malcolm to shift his fit of anger into a brilliant idea. Malcolm decided he was going to put on his rain gear and have some fun! “He splashed around the steps. He splashed around the yard. He splashed around the dog. And then he jumped in puddles.” While he’s rolling around in the mud, worms wiggle their way into Malcolm’s boots, hair, and coat and then…the tickles start, “He ran right through the mud. He ran right through the sand. He ran right through the house. And then got in trouble.” It was time for Malcolm to clean up his muddy mess, starting with himself. Malcolm put himself in the bath tub and created a whole new rainstorm of his own. This is a fun story with bold illustrations that will capture children’s attention. Author Paige Feurer is a child psychologist and former teacher, and And Then It Rained on Malcolm is her first children’s book. Illustrator Rich Farr is a professional illustrator and graphic designer with over fifteen years experience. Highly Recommended.
Kaitlyn Vecchio is a children’s librarian at the Prince George Public Library in Prince George, BC.
