excerpt:

Christmas is coming, and it is Mr. Peanuts’ favorite holiday. He is full of Christmas spirit!

He checks his mailbox every day for Christmas cards. One day, Mr. Peanuts receives a letter from Cousin Squirrel!

Dear Mr. Peanuts,

Please come for a visit and spend the Christmas holidays with me. I promise it will be your best Christmas ever!

Sincerely,

Cousin Squirrel

It seems that Mr. Peanuts is a most unusual squirrel who does not spend his winter days hiding acorns in the snow. Consequently, he is very happy to receive an invitation to spend Christmas with his cousin. Mr. Peanuts prepares for his trip by packing his Christmas sweaters and clearing a path in the snow for his convertible. Once he arrives at his cousin’s, the two squirrels have a delightful visit where they drink hazelnut lattes, play in the snow and prepare for the big day. The central theme of the story is that spending the holiday with someone special makes it so much better!

This story is enjoyable visually thanks to the bright and charming photos of our friend Mr. Peanuts and his cousin spending time together. Nancy Rose created little handmade sets for the squirrels to help tell the story of their holiday together, and then she waited patiently to photograph the squirrels interacting with the props and each other in her own backyard. She manages to capture the curiosity and delight of the little squirrels in each of her photos. There is a page at the end of the book that discusses the photography process for this book. Drawing on the theme of spending time with a favourite person or squirrel, this is a great story to share with someone that you care for.

Nancy Rose has previously published a story about Mr. Peanut’s adventures, The Secret Life of Squirrels. The story and photographs are just as much fun as in the Merry Christmas, Squirrels!

Highly Recommended.
