excerpt:

Are you ready for a story?
Me too.

We’ll start in the jungle where the tall trees grow and the monkeys swing from vine to vine.

Wait a minute.
That’s not a monkey.
That looks like…
A TIGER!
Run!

In It’s a Tiger!, readers join a young child as he imagines an adventure where he comes across a tiger at every turn. Across land and sea, the boy runs to avoid the wild animal, only to find the tiger one step ahead of him. The child assumes he is being chased as the tiger’s dinner, but is it really as scary as it seems?

internal art     Readers are immediately drawn into the book as they become participants in the chase, guided by the fearless narrator. His constant reassurance allows the adventure to be fun, without being too scary. The pacing of the text makes for an engaging hide and seek escapade with a predictable call and response built in. This is not a traditional story structure, but a great metanarrative for fans of participatory story experiences.

Jeremy Tankard brings a unique cartoon styling to his colourful illustrations. Thick, black outlines help the characters to stand out from their surroundings. The reader gets a true sense of the action in the story, not just from the pacing of the text, but from the line work in the drawings as well. The bright and diverse colour palette makes for a fun book with only a subtle hint of threat.
