excerpt:
Who would not love the adorable chocolate lab puppy with blue eyes that is found on the cover of Bailey’s Visit? Most little girls would, and they will enjoy a sweet, safe little story of how two young girls find a way to love puppies even though they are not allowed to have puppies of their own. Kat and Maya are best friends, and they share a deep love of puppies. They love swimming lessons, soccer and, above all, puppies! When Kat’s aunt opens up a dog grooming business, the girls are in heaven at the opportunity to groom and nurture the puppy clients. They particularly fall in love with Bailey who is a chocolate brown lab. They learn how to groom and care for this lovable little dog, and they also learn that Kat’s aunt definitely knows what is best when it comes to obeying sensible rules and being responsible for a little life. It is quite a bit of work to be responsible for a dog, and when the girls prove that they can nurture a puppy very well, readers will suspect that the girls’ families will allow them to be loving dog owners! The good news for puppy lovers is that Bailey’s Visit is part of “The Puppy Collection”, and so there will be many more lovable little pets to love! Recommended. Wendy Williams is a teacher-librarian in Calgary, AB.
