excerpt:
Babies and toddlers will enjoy the bouncy rhythms that play on traditional nursery rhymes in Baby Talk. Paired with bright photographs on a white background that show children engaged in waving bye bye, eating plums (This little baby went to market…), or counting sheep, the book is an excellent teaching tool. The small, 12-page board book follows a child through a typical day. Pat-a-cake is the breakfast rhyme, followed by the trip to day care, then eating good food (those luscious plums), getting ready for bed (Rock-a-bye baby, Up we go….ZOOM), in the bath (Rub a dub dub, Splashing in the tub) and off to bed (Hush little baby, Time to count sheep). Children will identify with the toddlers in the pleasing photos and will want to copy them. Parents should be prepared to mix pancake batter and swing a toddler “Up, up, up, Over the moon.”
Highly Recommended. Harriet Zaidman is a teacher-librarian in Winnipeg, MB.
