excerpt:

Down by the front door,
early in the morning
We are getting ready – ready to go
You can say BYE BYE,
we all wave bye bye,
Kiss kiss, bye bye, off we go!

Babies and toddlers will enjoy the bouncy rhythms that play on traditional nursery rhymes in Baby Talk. Paired with bright photographs on a white background that show children engaged in waving bye bye, eating plums (This little baby went to market…), or counting sheep, the book is an excellent teaching tool.

internal art     The small, 12-page board book follows a child through a typical day. Pat-a-cake is the breakfast rhyme, followed by the trip to day care, then eating good food (those luscious plums), getting ready for bed (Rock-a-bye baby, Up we go….ZOOM), in the bath (Rub a dub dub, Splashing in the tub) and off to bed (Hush little baby, Time to count sheep). Children will identify with the toddlers in the pleasing photos and will want to copy them. Parents should be prepared to mix pancake batter and swing a toddler “Up, up, up, Over the moon.”

Rhymes and repetition help teach and reinforce vocabulary and pronunciation and embed daily routines. They also help build the bond between caregiver and child. The twist on traditional rhymes adds a note of humour that will enliven these important lessons.

Along with Baby Play and Baby Look, the other two volumes in the “Baby Steps” series, Baby Talk will make a prized gift for new parents.

Highly Recommended.
