Puzzle #22 was the following:

What is the next number in this pattern

16, 24, 36, 54, ___

The answer to Puzzle #22 is below:

The expected answer was 81

to get the next number you add half the current number
16 + 1/2 of 16 = 24 . . . 36 + 1/2 of 36 = 54 . . . 54 + 27 = 81

another solution is 86

explained by Sylvia Champion, Gr. 7A, Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Inst., Winnipeg, MB reasoning:

The second digit alternates between 4 and 6.
The first digit comes from adding the last two first digits together.

a third solution was 80

explained by Justin Cormier, Stephen McKim, Mike Davidson, Grade 8B Riverview Middle School - Riverview, New Brunswick. reasoning:

taking the difference between 16-24 as 8, 24-36 as 12, 36-54 as 18
I added the difference betwwen 8-12=4, 12-18=6, to the previous difference.
The next number I see is 18+8=26 added to 54 gives my solution of 80.
