February 12th's Question:

The aboriginal people of the Arctic do not like to be called Eskimos bu prefer the name Inuit. Why?

Answer:

The word Eskimo is a word taken from the Algonquian language meaning "eaters of raw flesh". When the Europeans came to North America they adopted this name. The Inuit people feel this name to be demeaning and prefer to call themselves Inuit which translated means "the people". I was fairly generous on this one. Many answers were fairly close to this but may have left some of the facts out. If they had the general idea I was willing to give credit.
