internal artIn board book format, Kiss, Tickle, Cuddle, Hug presents a series of baby and toddler facial expressions in photographs along with their interpretations in concise sentences. A range of emotions recognizable by caregivers and early childhood educators alike will appeal to babies and toddlers who are becoming more emotionally aware – from happiness to anger to shyness. Firstly, the emotion is described, followed by a suggested remedy – for instance, if Ella has a sleepy look on her face, then she needs a cuddle. The text is peppered with silliness, adding a joyful tone to the book – e.g., “Henry makes a monkey face. Henry needs a banana.” Babies will be especially attracted to the variety of facial expressions, and all readers will appreciate the racial diversity of the children in the photographs. Kiss, Tickle, Cuddle, Hug is highly recommended for all libraries with board book collections.

Highly Recommended.
