excerpt:

Sir Seth turned to Sir Ollie. “By golly, Sir Ollie, I think the Mighty Knights should go up there and teach Betty the Yeti some manners.”

“Right you are, Sir Seth. The time for talk is over. It’s time for action instead!” He automatically reached for El Gonzo, his sword. But he forgot that El Gonzo was gonzo! “My trusty sword! It got all burned up by that awful ogre Ooz! Now what am I gonna do?”

“Going up the mountain without a sword?” the mayor gasped. “What a doubly dangerous thing to do!”

“Yes, ma’am, indeed it is!” Sir Ollie said. “But someone must go up there and stop Betty!”

Sir Seth Thistethwaite and best friend Sir Ollie Everghettz are back to entertain readers on their third adventure, this time in the snowy land of Ah Ah Kacchu. How will these mighty knights conquer the threats of Betty the Yeti and the worst avalanche yet?

internal art      With alliterative language, tongue twisters, and words written in larger fonts throughout the text, this chapter book is an inviting and engaging read-a-loud story. The rhyming text will capture the interest of reluctant readers as they accompany Sir Seth and Sir Ollie on their mountain mission.

Vince Chui’s playful black and white illustrations effectively depict the imaginative adventures of Sir Seth and Sir Ollie. Further, readers will also enjoy Chui’s illustrated map of Ah Ah Kacchu, complete with illustrations of Elynor the Faerie Queen, Betty the Yeti, and Flit the Snow Flea, among others.

I recommend Richard Thake’s creative chapter book to young readers seeking a playful, adventurous read.

Recommended.
