excerpt:

Cheryl's father tossed the little fish back and Cheryl came flying up out of the hole.

She said "brrrrrrrrrr, it's cold." And right away she started turning into an icicle.

Her father picked her up and ran to shore and got a fire going in the Labrador tent.

Give Me Back My Dad!, the latest Munsch offering, contains many of the familiar features of this popular author: his humour, his over the top situation, the little girl who outwits an older opponent. internal artMunsch lovers will laugh and enjoy the fun.

Cheryl has gone ice fishing with her dad. When she sees a candy bar on the ice and picks it up, she is pulled into the water. Only when her dad catches a small fish and agrees to throw it back does Cheryl get to come out of the water. Then a $50,000 note appears, and her dad grabs it and is pulled into the water. Cheryl has to prove she is smarter than the fish. She manages to get her dad back, and they keep the $50,000 as well.

Michael Martchenko's illustrations are, as usual, large, colourful and appealing. Give Me Back My Dad! is a picture book that will be popular in nursery, kindergarten and grade one classrooms. With its winter setting and ice fishing theme, it will also be familiar territory for many Canadian locations.

Highly Recommended.
