excerpt:

Gul means rose. Turkish Girls Name
Rosa ~ Spanish Rhodanthe ~ Greek Raisa ~ Hebrew Briar ~ English

Renowned in Austria for her art, Wolfsgruber uses this small picture book as her palette by illustrating the beauty in a name. Illustrations combine a mix of media including stitching, watercolour and sketches. The delicate collages are sweet, whimsical and, surprisingly, compelling. Each page highlights one or more botanical names for girls from a variety of cultures.

internal art      This book would likely have a strong appeal to girls. The publishers suggest the book has widespread appeal, stating on the jacket that it is "an ideal gift for prospective parents dreaming up baby names." The book is peculiar and is likely to delight some girls. The detailed and unusual artistry pull the more adult reader in. However, there is no story to this book, and pages can be viewed randomly which makes it rather peculiar.

A Daisy is a Daisy is a Daisy (Except When It's a Girl's Name) would be suitable as a gift for a girl who has an interest in flowers and/or her name. It may have interest for those with more specialized collections as well but is not an essential piece to a broader library collection.

Recommended with reservations.
