excerpt:

Mandy loved to colour. When she was very little she learned: Blue for sky. Green for grass. Yellow for sun, and red for her favourite overalls.

When she was bigger, Mandy visited Aunt Carla for a weekend. Aunt Carla taught her how to play I Spy. "I spy with my little eye something that is brown."

This picture book is aimed at youngest readers, ages 2-5. It has a very simple story line. As Mandy and her aunt enjoy a day at the beach, Aunt Carla challenges Mandy to find something white. Mandy thinks of many white things: white waves, a white lighthouse, white sand, a white head on a chickadee, a white seagull, but none of these are what her aunt is thinking of.

internal artFinally, just as Mandy is getting sleepy from all the sun and sand, she spies a white nose on a bunny rabbit. The mystery is solved.

The pictures in this book are large and colourful, and there are white-nosed rabbits on almost every page. Youngest readers will enjoy trying to play the "I Spy" game with Mandy.

Both Judy Dudar and Richard Rudnicki live in Halifax, NS. The book was launched at White Point Beach, NS, the attractive setting for this picture book.
