Brother with my best toy.

Brother with my cap.

Here's my little brother...

...waking from his nap.

Accomplished author, Ruth Ohi, has returned with another story celebrating the bond of siblings in her new picture book, Me and My Brother.

Using the successful template of Me and My Sister, Ohi transfers her attention to the relationship of brothers. In Me and My Brother, the reader follows the older brother, who appears to be around five, as he interacts with his younger brother. On each page, the older brother provides a short statement about what his brother is doing. As the pages turn, the author's simple text creates a gentle rhyming pattern that echoes the affection depicted by the pictures.

internal art      This deceptively simple tale is further developed through the illustrations. Ohi's bold watercolours depict the feelings of delight the brothers have in spending time with each other. The facial expressions of the two brothers further enhance this delightful little story by showing the many sides of the brothers' relationship, including anger and frustration. For example, on the page with the statement "Brother in the sun," the big brother is encouraging his brother, who is obviously nervous, to go down the slide. The illustrations bring the text to life.

Me and My Brother will be an excellent storytime addition in nursery and kindergartens. It will also delight many toddlers on their parents' laps at home.

Highly Recommended.
