excerpt:

Down the lane, about thirty feet away, three guys are kicking someone who is curled up on the ground. One of them has an object in his hand, maybe a lead pipe. Is there a pool of something dark on the pavement, oozing around the person’s head?

Shawn is the adult at home while his father works late shifts and his mother has left them. He has to watch his little brother Ethan, cook dinner, baby sit him and do the dishes. He also needs to do his homework and go to school on time, but one morning, along with his friend Daniel, Shawn is late in arriving at school .

Shawn and Daniel are in detention for a whole hour after school for being late this morning, and the detention leads to a chain of events. They leave school late, miss the bus, take a walk around the mall and witness a horrific incident committed by a gang of guys. They know who is involved in this incident but decide to keep quiet. They also hope the gang didn’t see them, but things get ugly. Wendell threatens Shawn, and Daniel realizes he lost something of his while running away from the incident location. Now the gang will find them.

Daniel and Shawn decide to talk to someone, but to whom will they go to and will anyone believe them?

See No Evil, a fast-paced, event-driven story, is certainly a page turner for kids who are beginning to read at this level and for reluctant readers.

Recommended.
