On Saturday, Sara and Annie
Sisters Sara and Annie have played together nicely all day Saturday, but then a small misstep leads to pushing. Daddy walks by just in time to give a gentle reminder that "we don't push in this family." Annie is crying, but Sara gets mad, and, after declaring that her Daddy doesn't love her, she announces that she is running away. Sara packs six bags of essentials and allows Annie to accompany her on her journey. They get as far as the tree in the back yard before Daddy offers to set up a tent for them. A blanket and a very long rope do the trick. Sara even lets out a loud roar to "protect" Daddy from the rustle in the bushes. Flashlights, shadow puppets and cheese sandwiches are enjoyed before Daddy asks to read the girls a story before he goes to sleep. Daddy and his sleepy little runaways enjoy bedtime stories under the stars. When Mommy arrives with more blankets and pillows, the whole family (dog and cat included) camp out in the backyard for the night.
The soft watercolour illustrations do a terrific job of telling the story for young readers. The illustrations are detailed enough to capture the reader's attention, such as when the field mouse peeks out of the flower pots near the end of the story. There are lots of fun details to be found in And You Can Come Too is recommended for preschools and public libraries. This title is a great gift choice for siblings. Highly Recommended Catherine Hoyt has returned from maternity leave and is now the Acting Head of Public Services for New Brunswick Public Library Service.

Award-winning illustrator Ruth Ohi is also the author of this charming little book. Children will relate to Sara's feelings, and this story is sure to bring a smile to the faces of parents. And You Can Come Too would make a nice read aloud choice for preschool storytimes.
