These two new titles in the "Wheels at Work" series explain city vehicles and country vehicles and are sure to be a big hit with younger students who like things that go. Each page has a full colour painting illustrating each vehicle as it does its job. In the City shows a garbage truck, delivery truck, bus, fire truck, moving van, courier truck, bucket truck, armored vehicle, chip wagon, power rodder (used to lay high speed communication cables), ambulance and street sweeper.
In the Country shows a farm tractor, truck, cultivator, field sprayer, feed truck, school bus, livestock trailer, baler, combine, grain buggy, drilling rig, horse trailer and plow. This book follows the cycle of farm chores from spring planting to combining in the fall.
In both books, the name of the vehicle is in bold type. There is no index, glossary or table of contents, but the books are suitable for their intended audience. The beautiful illustrations are very detailed and complement the text. Recommended. Pat Fay is a teacher-librarian at Beaumont School in Winnipeg, MB.
