Review by Helen Norrie.

***1/2 /4

This is an excellent film about the life of Dr. Elena Mihu, a rural doctor in Kinmount in Southern Ontario. It shows what a wide diversity of patients she treats and how she takes a personal interest in each one. Dr. Mihu came as an immigrant to Canada, but she fits beautifully into the life of the community. This film should be shown to every Medical School class as an example of what a rich experience family practitioners can have in rural settings in Canada. It could also be shown to high school students as part of their career choice training.

As is expected with NFB films, technical aspects of this film are excellent. The colour, sound, and editing are all first rate. Because the film is shot in an area of lovely scenery, this also adds to the appeal of the film. By following the stories of several patients over a period of months, viewers also experience a certain amount of dramatic tension as at least one of these patients has a life-threatening illness.

I would recommend this film highly to Guidance Teachers or Medical students.

Highly Recommended.
