Kids of all ages will enjoy the nutty things that go on when there are simply two too many things. Also counting the objects and deciding which pair were the "last straw" will be a good game. The illustrations, done in pastel, have a wonderful crayon-like quality kids will be able to identify with. The two-page spreads feature kids and animals tumbling in and out of the frame of the pages. All have brilliant borders that function like picture frames to stop the action and capture it on the page. The children's faces express surprise, fright, disappointment, and shock as we go from page to page. The message of the text is that when you have extra of something, the best thing to do is share. How can anyone disagree with that? The text features many unusual words like "balsa," which kids may even feel the need to look up in a dictionary. However, there are not too many words to make the text too tough to decipher for even the most beginning reader. Highly recommended.
