THE HOLE IN TOMMY'S POCKET

You just know something unusual is going to happen to Tommy when this story begins: just like every other weekend morning ..." Uh-huh, something is going to happen! Tommy finds a hole, not an ordinary hole in the ground, but a deep one that talks. Before you know it, Tommy and the hole are off on an adventure. The hole hides Tommy from the neighbourhood bully, does away with a dog that is scaring children at the playground, swallows a truck whole, and helps Tommy rearrange the living room furniture. Tommy just cannot wait until school the next day, and at bedtime he safely slips the hole into his pocket. In the morning, just as Tommy is leaving for school, his mother calls out to him, "Oh, by the way, Tommy, I stitched up that hole in your pocket last night." The comic-book-style illustrations exaggerate expressions with broad, boyish affectations befitting the mischievous and adventurous Tommy and friend. The Hole in Tommy's Pocket is a simple, delightful story for children just starting to read independently. A little more difficult than an "I Can Read" book, it is nonetheless perfect for Primary or reluctant readers to try. Wouldn't every boy or girl want a friend like this hole?
