There are eight delightful stories about nature in this book. They are mainly about the Windman, the Seasons and two children, Michael and Megan, who endeavour to understand and help these forces throughout their changing times. In the first story Michael rescues the Windman from a large bag and is later rescued from a deep hole by Windman. This story reminds us of the "Lion and the Mouse" tale.

We learn of sleepy Summer, tricky Fall, carefree Winter and friendly Spring. There are magical stories about chestnuts and squirrels and stories about falling leaves. There is even a magic birthday spell.

The black-and-white illustrations by Vladyana Krykorka are truly imaginative and decorate almost every page.

The author hopes that his readers will use these stories for short plays that might be written in class and then acted out for the enjoyment of all.

These fanciful stories are enjoyable in themselves but their greatest value, to me, would be their ability to trigger further creative writing.

Definitely a "recommend" for any elementary library.
