Watch out, Frog and Toad, Goldsworthy and Mort are back in two droll stories designed for the just-beginning-to-read set. In the first story, "Christmas Gift Catastrophe," the two friends try to find the perfect gift for each other. When all else fails they end up making gifts that somehow don't turn out quite as they had planned. However, the two friends wind up proving once again that the gift itself is of little importance, for what really matters is the loving intentions behind it.

The second story called "On Vacation" takes the two friends in alliterative harmony to several countries around the world. They enjoy all the sights and activities, but at the conclusion of the story they realize that, although travel may be wonderful, the very best place to be is at home.

Vaughan has created two more delightful stories about these funny friends. She uses language to great effect and the plots and characterizations, although simple, are certain to find favour with beginning readers. Linda Hendry's full-colour illustrations lend even more fun to these stories as the two friends share their adventure.

Recommedned.
