Marilyn Baillie, an editor with  Chickadee, has written two delightful fact-filled texts that can be turned into keepsake scrapbooks for a favourite pet. All information has been verified by a veterinarian.

Topics in both books include appearance, breeds, petcare, food, body language, senses, movement, vet visits, and travel tips for each animal.  My Cat also contains specific data on cats' eyes and grooming, while  My Dog gives tips on training. The texts are interactive: children are encouraged to complete sentences and check-lists and add sketches or photographs to personalize the scrapbook. A variety of activies are suggested, for example, experiments and making toys or treats.

Facts are presented in an attractive, easy-to-read format and are interspersed with colourful drawings by Brenda Clark, the illustrator of the "Franklin" books. The endpapers and page borders of pet paraphernalia add a touch of whimsy. A table of contents and index are lacking and would have been useful.

Highly recommended as gift books. Less suitable for libraries.
