Another book in Raffi's "Songs to Read" series. In this case, however, the limitations of the concept (illustrated songs) are well apparent.

Despite lush tropical illustrations by the talented Kate Duke, the song used as text lacks enough "meat" to make the book substantial. The repetition of phrases wears early (for example, one phrase is repeated four times in the first seven pages). The sparseness and simplicity of the calypso dialect also make the text seem flat.

The book provides music as well as lyrics in a two-page spread at the back of the book. This book would have been better off as a two-page spread in a Raffi songbook.
