Her books have been well received by most librarians. In Crow and Fox Thornhill presents nine animal legends collected from six continents. Each of the stories contains two main characters. One of the animals named in any story is part of the following story. For example, "Hare and Tortoise" is followed by 'Tortoise and Crane." Each story has been taken from a different country and although the title may be familiar, the legend may not be the one previously known. Most of the tales are one page in length with the opposing page a full-page illustration. The border of each picture presents a pattern commonly used in that country. Libraries that have a variety of titles that deal with legends will find this a useful book. The purpose of each legend is clearly presented, the country of origin is given, and the illustrations depict the main feature of each story. Hugh A. Cook in Maple.
