Volume 21 Number 5 1993 October A nice fall story about a boy's walk in the rain with his father. The boy in the story is dying to try out his new fire-red boots, but it has not rained in weeks, so the playground has no puddles. The water-colour illustrations show the child's perspective of his world. Also, the greyness of the illustrations perfectly suits the mood of November rain. The author has described the sensations of rain exactly, and the excursion to the sea adds many new sensations for the reader to experience. By the time the boy and his father return to the house, they welcome the warmth of the cocoa he has to drink. The layout of one picture page and one page with wet leaves and stray drops of rain effectively contrasts the sensations of being outside and being inside (as in the early illustrations) on every page.
