Volume 21 Number 4 1993 September Greenmantle is a delightful retelling of an ancient Ojibway legend of the north. It is a story of heroism, love and sacrifice that will delight readers with its majestic vistas so vividly described. The heroine of the story, a young maiden (daughter of the chief), is kidnapped by a warring tribe of Sioux. It is the story of her determination to save her people from a surprise attack and almost certain death. The seventy-two-page book is illustrated with line drawings by Luc Robert. As well as being a good read, the book offers readers a chance to better understand the history of Native Canadians. Recommended. Michele F.
