Kindergarten to Grade 3/Ages 5 to 8 Reviewed by Hugh A. Cook. Volume 21 Number 3 1993 May Five children are playing hide-and-seek in the moonlight when they notice that the moon is falling. They rush to a large meadow and find several people gathered there with a large sheet in which they hope to catch the moon. The people discover that the moon has fallen because it has become ill from all the earthly pollution. The children and the adults endeavour to remove the pollutants from the moon and the earth so that the moon can get well again. Finally they succeed, and the moon rises once more. While the use of a variety of short, coloured lines makes interesting colour patterns, the illustrations created are extremely difficult to decipher from close up. The pictures are much more readily under­stood from a distance of one to two metres. The use of this book almost necessitates its being used as a read-a-loud story-book. However, the story-line is somewhat weak and I sincerely doubt most teachers would choose it for their class. No one explains how the pollutants from Earth escape our atmosphere and arrive on the surface of the moon. I suppose the authors believe this is a minor point, since the story is written for a Primary audience. Other than the use of short, coloured lines used to produce an unusual artistic effect, I find this book of little value to the average elementary library. Hugh A.
