Volume 20 Number 5
Interwoven with the story of a young girl's longing for the return of her father from the sea is the enchanting story of a young oyster's love for the moon. The young oyster struggles to meet the moon's request for an exquisite drop pearl for the moon's forehead. The oyster grants the moon's request, then dies. This is a moving legend about love and sacrifice. The water-colour illustrations enhance the beauty and mystery of this story. Suitable for children eight to twelve years old. This special story about the sea is an optional choice for libraries. Martha Ronalds is a children's librarian at Barrie Public Library in Barrie, Ontario
