Part of the "Series 2000" of high-interest, low-vocabulary paperbacks, this title is quite well written. Author of another book in the series, Dayle Gaetz has also written a children's book and two juvenile paperbacks. Following the pattern of the series, the book shares several characteristics: the serious subject matter, the simplified vocabulary, the generous type spacing, and short overall length. The books in the series are intended for young adults and are presented with attractive, glossy covers, resembling adult paperbacks.

The story is fast paced if somewhat predictable. A teenage girl discovers that her dad is not her natural father and, amid various personal complications, sets out on a journey to find him. Side issues such as the mother's painful separation from her husband and the situation faced by the younger brother during the family's dilemma are both sensitively treated. The ending is believable and not overly sentimental.

Illustrations accompanying the text add to the flow of the story.

Recommended for grades 7 to 10 and basic reading materials collections.
