Dorothy Joan Harris has successfully written an interesting, easy and fun-to-read story for beginning readers. The large type makes it easy to read and Harris' story holds the reader's attention. The vocabulary is somewhat challenging but should not be unfamiliar to the young reader. Amanda Duffy's illustrations are colourful yet somehow old fashioned looking. The border on each page is appealing and helps add to the fun of solving the mystery, as you try to figure out if there are any clues hidden amongst the pictures. This story should help young readers to learn that reading is fun and exciting. Girls and boys can enjoy this story, as the appeal of mysteries is universal. This is a recommended purchase for school and public libraries for their early readers, especially if the library already has the story of Annabel's first adventure. Anyone who has read The Case of the Missing Tooth will want to read this book too. The Case of the Mystery Note may have its readers writing mystery notes of their own!
