Our bodies are almost 60 per cent water, and 70 per cent of the earth is covered by water. Without it, we would be living in a desert world without the large fraction of life that lives in water itself. Yet, we continue to pollute and waste it in shocking ways. Author Deborah Seed and illustrator Bob Beeson have produced a book that is both educational and entertaining. Seed's eclectic approach goes beyond explaining the science of water. She includes legends of sea gods and monsters, tales of early explorers, and information on pollution and how to help clean it up. Beeson's illustrations provide the right amount of support for the text. This book follows the successful Kids Can Press format: information coupled with experiments in an easy-to-read and fun-filled book. My children grabbed this book before I could finish it. They recommend chapter 5, "Wacky Water Games and Tricks." So do I. The Amazing Water Book should be a mandatory purchase for all libraries.
