Andrews presents riveting stories that will keep any mature reader hanging on until the end. The writing is excellent with strong narrative and descriptive elements and always a twist at the end, which stands society or the conventional reader on end and forces a new look at some of the things which we have always taken for granted.

The reader may need some maturity, because there is a dark thread running through all of the stories. The homeless are forced from their daytime refuge in the railway station because the prince and princess are coming through. A child evacuee in wartime Britain expects death at the hands of a sadistic teacher until she discovers that the teacher has a deep secret. A woman tries to save her mother and sister from an abusive father only to have them turn on her. An obese woman finds that her prince charming is really just a toad.

These powerfully written stories are highly recommended for the senior grades of high school and for adults.
