Volume 20 Number 3 1992 May The only other English title in this series at present is The Snowy Owl by Joseph Lévesque and Pierre Jarry (reviewed this issue). However, there are six other titles in the French-language series. One tends to feel somewhat itchy after reading this book. The imagination is a powerful thing! Although the four-line rhyming verses are amusing, the real attraction of the book is the illustrations, which are in colour and depict the louse and its host in a humorous fashion. The series is designed to offer to the reader a scientific view of some of nature's creatures at a very primary level. In each verse there are one or two words that may require interpretation for the young, but they are works useful to the study of the species (e.g., parasite, host, reproduce, habitat). The publishers of this series hope that the books will answer the inquisitiveness of its young readers and at the same time belay the fears some may have of the topics presented. The topic is not usually well covered on most library shelves of my acquaintance, especially at the Primary level. When head lice become a problem in the school this book will probably have to be put on restricted circulation. This book is exceptionally well bound and printed on superior quality paper.
