CIP Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6/Ages 4 to 12 Reviewed by Pat Steenbergen Volume 20 Number 3 1992 May This is John Acorn's first publication on dinosaurs; however, the work was vetted by Dale Russell, world-renowned paleontologist with the Canadian Museum of Nature and author of at least five books on the dinosaurs of this period. The illustrations and model skeleton arc by Eleanor Kish, who has also illustrated three of Dale Russell's books on dinosaurs. The attractive set provides a compact introduction to a "Canadian" dinosaur. Many of the dinosaur books for children cover only very large or American dinosaurs (Canada can claim forty-nine genera of dinosaurs, the fourth highest). The writing style re-creates the probable living conditions of Leptoceratops while at the same time indicating what is fact and what is supposi­tion. The illustrations are clear and amplify the text. There is no index but the book is short and the contents page can serve as an index. Librarians will have to repackage the kit, as the model does not easily come apart once assembled. The set would be useful in a classroom where the model can be left standing. Primary age children - some of the main consumers of dinosaur material - will need help assembling the model. Recommended.
