There is a short, snappy plot, in this case a fairly melodramatic one involving organ transplants. There are short chapters, plenty of white space, and a number of full-page illustrations apparently done by Julie de Bellefeuille. The story is told by Tina and makes up in action what it lacks in plausibility. Tina has broken up with Rick and is now going with Alan. Both play on the school soccer team, and Rick holds a grudge against Alan for taking his girl away. Alan is hurt in a freak accident during a game and his liver is badly damaged. After a few minor twists of plot, Tina persuades Rick to give blood to help Alan, since they share the same rare blood group. On the way to the hospital, Rick's motorbike has a fatal crash, and, after Tina pleads with his parents Rick's liver winds up being transplanted into Alan, saving his life. The story is set in Halifax and there are occasional references to local sports and scenery. Despite this token local colour, however, this is an identikit easy reader, no better and no worse than many others. Margaret Mackey, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alta.
