Anyone who has seen "Northwood," the TV series, knows that it's a slick show that explores various topics related to adolescence. Some characters do drugs. Some have problems at home. Jason Williams and Maria Giovanni have sex.

One might expect that Say Yes, a book about Jason and Maria, would be about sex. Actually, it's about hockey. Jason has just met Maria, and they are falling in love. But he's also trying out for a new hockey team. Making the team just might help him reach his father, who has begun to distance himself from the family. Jason is torn between spending time with Maria and making the team, between doing what others want of him and doing what he thinks is right. In the end, he follows his heart and finds out that he should have done so all along.

The "Northwood" series isn't literature, but then it doesn't claim to be. Say Yes is simply a quick read (just over one hundred pages) with very little substance. But there is a place for books like these - they may appeal to non-readers as well as to fans of the series and to teens looking for a brief escape into other people's lives.
