Clam warns Shrimp to be quiet, as he could become somebody else's meal. Together Shrimp and Clam explore the arctic food chain: shrimp are eaten by fish, who are eaten by seals, who are eaten by polar bears, who are eaten by Inuit. Originally written in Inuktitut as part of the Baffin Divisional Board of Education's efforts to develop a library of Inuktitut literature, Who's Going to Eat Me has been translated for distribution in both the north and south of Canada. Author Tommy Enuaraq and illustrator Germaine Arnaktauyok have produced a children's book that, while northern in approach and message, appeals to southern Canadians as well. English language adaptor Kate McDermott is also deserving of praise, as she has helped produce a book that maintains an Inuit flavour. By publishing school texts in native languages, Nortext is filling a vital niche in our education system. It is good to see that Canadian children's literature is flourishing, especially in native languages. Highly recommended.
