Frequently students will view on TV, or read in newspapers, articles that address an environmental concern about which they would like to learn more. Teachers are encouraged by this opportunity but they are frequently forced to set the student adrift on an overwhelming sea of information. Now there is a single, relatively easy to use guide to navigate students to a person, organization or information service that will focus their search.

Canadian Environmental Directory is the fourth in a series of directories, this one specifically aimed at environmental organizations. The thousands of listings are grouped under government, environmental organizations, environmental law firms, information services, and a buyer's guide to products and services. Every page of the directory is packed with information. On one page in the "I" section of the Canadian Organizations directory, for instance, there is listed the name, address, phone and fax numbers, as well as organization information on the International Permafrost Association, the International Radiation Protection Association, the International Reference Centre for Avian Haematozoa, the International Working Group of Legume Virologists, and the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, to name a few. These listings are all cross-referenced to make the search for information more productive.

As a result of using this source, students will not find the search is over, but they will be able to make contact with the person or organization that can provide the information or focus their search. In the short time that I have used this directory, it has become a mainstay in my resource library. I strongly recommend the Canadian Environmental Directory (1991) for any school library.
