CIP Pre-school Reviewed by Joan Skogan Volume 19 Number 6 1991 November The "Talk-about-Books" made for babies and toddlers by writer Debbie Bailey and photographer Susan Huszar are aptly named. The clear, bright words and pictures of a child's close-up world in the three sturdily bound titles I've seen — My Mom, Shoes and Hats — will be happily recognized by the series' audience. The children, photographed along with mothers, hats and shoes of great and cheerful variety, are unselfconscious, and Debbie Bailey's text matches them in matter-of-fact ness: "Hats go on your head." "Shoes go on your feet." "My mom is very special." Each of the three books ends appropriately abruptly, much as conversations with very small children do. The "Talk-about-Books" have been designed with great care for the children who will see them. Pages are easy to turn, illustra­tions are large and framed with primary colours, the few words are carefully chosen and clearly laid out. Highly recommended for children three and under.
