Robin Webb, former president of the World Karate Council, and partner Judy Houghton developed the Hands Off self-defence program following his eleven-year-old daughter's escape from an attacker. Reasoning that most women do not have years of specialized training, they concentrated on moves that were easily learned and that would create time to escape. Since 1979 they have been giving seminars in Canada, the U.S. and Australia. This is a revised version of a previous release.

During the first 25 minutes of this video, Houghton and Webb demonstrate escape techniques. These are not intricate judo throws or karate chops, but simple ways to startle and immobilize. For example, they suggest biting a man who grabs you in a headlock and show how to traumatize the knee of an attacker so that he cannot pursue. Included is advice on talking yourself out of situations involving weapons and on what to do if you do become a victim. The information is presented in as non-threatening a manner as is probably possible and the moves are clearly explained and demonstrated. Houghton and Webb emphasize that self-confidence and capability are weapons that cannot be used against you.

The remainder of the video is a segment of the Keyeye street-proofing program. This is more a trailer than a stand-alone item. However, it does give a good idea of the content of the program. If your primary interest is the street-proofing segment, wait for the release of their Keyeye video currently in production.

I highly recommend this video for all high school and public libraries. The content is excellent and the presentation is clear.
