Volume 19 Number 5 1991 October Bobbie Kalman and the Crabtree Publishing Company have been long noted for useful publications for students in grades 6 to 10. This book on Tibet is no exception. It takes a loving — not romantic — look at this fascinat­ing place, dealing with the environment, family life, economic activities and religious beliefs. The people are portrayed as sturdy, cultured and pious; the land as both harsh and productive. The author has not side-stepped issues such as the Chinese domination of the country but rather discusses them in a manner appropriate to the audience. The reading level is suitable for students in the senior elementary grades, and will be easily handled by high school students. The design of the book is as interest­ing as the subject matter. Wonderful photos of people and objects have been used imaginatively to create a book that invites one to read it. A glossary and index have been included. Recommended with no reservations.
