Three separate and distinct stories entitled "Angry Jenny," "Poor Bird" and "Rainy Day" evolve around two main characters, Jenny and Bob, whose names also happen to form the title of this children's book.

The stories of the two small children are about everyday occurrences such as a temper tantrum (Jenny), finding a dead bird (Bob), and the joy of playing in the rain.

Through the simple text and softly coloured pictures, the mood of each story is cleverly sustained. The subject of death is handled well with the children first denying that the bird is dead, followed by tears and then the burial of the bird with a final tea party.

The short stories, simple text and beautiful illustrations would appeal to young children's imaginations as they deal with the reality of a child's world. A cautionary note: the British "macs" is used for raincoats. One should not dismiss the book for this reason, however, as it wonderfully captures the many charms of childhood.
